THE return of Faugheen to the racecourse at Leopardstown on Sunday is the undoubted highlight of a very strong racing weekend.
Saturday sees Cheltenham stage a nine-race card, featuring Thistlecrack, Defi Du Seuil, Un De Sceaux, Unowhatimeanharry and many other jumping stars. The Naas card is a cracker too, with two intriguing Grade 3 races. Meanwhile, Vroum Vroum Mag pops up at Doncaster where again there are several mouth-watering clashes.
Flat racing fans can come in from the cold too. Two Group 1 races at Kenilworth in the early afternoon won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but even the jumping diehards will be intrigued to watch the first staging of the $12 million Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream at 10.42pm on At The Races. Sunday’s top-class card at Leopardstown also features the Arkle Novice Chase. Identity Thief heads that four-runner field but Min misses out due to a “bang on the knee”, according to Willie Mullins.
