KIEREN Fallon is back in Ireland and expected to ride at the Curragh on Sunday.
The 51-year-old jockey is riding out for Curragh trainer Michael O’Callaghan, for whom Fallon has three booked rides tomorrow. Pending some paperwork, Fallon is set to ride in three races for O’Callaghan on the opening day of the 2016 Irish turf flat season.
O’Callaghan said: “Kieren Fallon is one of the world’s most accomplished jockeys. He has been British champion six times and has won big races all over the world. I am thrilled that he has agreed to join our team. It is a real coup for our yard.”
Fallon has spent the last year and a half riding in the USA having seen his rides in Britain dry up during the 2014 season, a campaign which had begun with a Newmarket 2000 Guineas win for Fallon on Night Of Thunder.
O’Callaghan said: “Kieren is delighted to be back in Ireland. I’m sure the Irish racing public will also be excited to see such a star in action. We have a bit of paperwork to clear before Sunday but, all being well, Kieren will ride for us at the Curragh. Some of our owners, including Qatar Racing, retain their own jockeys but hopefully Kieren will be available to ride many of the others.”
The trainer’s 65-box yard is “almost full” and the stable star is the Qatar Racing-owned Blue De Vega, among the favourites for the 2000 Guineas.
Fallon said: “Michael is a trainer going places and I jumped at the opportunity to get involved with his yard. He has a super set-up here on the Curragh, a smashing group of horses and excellent staff. This is a good move for me.”
Ruaidhri Tierney is his agent.
In other weighroom news, Colm O’Donoghue has forged a new link with the Jessica Harrington yard. Mrs Harrington said: “Colm is going to ride more or less everything we run on the flat this season.”
