WE were confident Gale Mahler would go close on Tuesday but, at the same time, we didn’t know how her English form would stack up against the Irish horses. Well, she blew the Irish form out of the water!

She was very impressive and we are entitled to think about big races now. She’s a novice until next spring and if Willie Mullins trained her she would be odds-on for Cheltenham!

We bought Gale Mahler privately in Ireland just a few months ago unraced. It’s a great result for her breeder [trainer Tony Martin].

We had a bit of a celebration afterwards but I was up early on Wednesday to get to Goodwood in time to see Francisco’s Piece run in the Molecomb Stakes. He was one of 12 yearlings I bought last year. Eight of them have run and seven have won.

Symbol Of Strength broke the two-year-old track record at Ayr on Monday. He’s a nice horse, as is Bear Kode, who won at Newcastle on Saturday.

That’s our business model now – buying yearlings and getting them moved on with racecourse form. Last year we sold Ballymount Boy to Wathnan Racing after he finished second to Vandeek at Goodwood.

Most people would know me as the trainer of Jet Setting, winner of the Irish 1000 Guineas in 2016, when I trained on the Curragh. I moved to Malton in Yorkshire in early 2020. I wouldn’t say it’s easier in England but there is more of an outlay for horses.

The customer base is bigger, for small money and big money, and there is racing for all levels every day of the week.

We don’t have many jumpers – they just keep us ticking over. It would be nice to get a few new owners as a result of our Galway winner. We’re expanding all the time and we’re very ambitious.
