MY WAY - “Bred For Greatness”
THE arrival of My Way and Fernando continues to redefine excellence in the class and choice of stallions available at Drumhowan Stud in 2025. “There is no doubt, but we worked hard to secure both stallions to stand in Ireland, in particular My Way from the USA,” said Gladys McArdle.
My Way is bred for greatness. He has performed at the high level of sport and is only 15 years old. He is the exclusive son of Mylord Carthago (ranked number five show jumping sire on the WBFSH rankings) resident in Ireland.
Equally interesting, he shares the same dam as Uricas V/D Kattevennen, ridden by Harrie Smolders, who placed fourth in the team final at the Paris Olympic Games 2024. The granddam of My Way, Chikas Way, is another 1.60m performer. My Way had his own successful sporting career competing at 1.60m in Nations Cups and Grand Prix classes. Arriving just in the nick of time for HSI Stallion Inspections, My Way is now fully approved with his 4* SJ rating.
Already we see his temperament as amazingly kind. With USA owners, My Way was the mount of Brazil’s Luiz Francisco de Azevedo. “We are much in gratitude to Francisco for helping secure the one-year contract on the striking grey stallion,” Gladys added.

FERNANDO – “The superstar”
“The biggest shows in the world were their playground,” says Dutch rider Johnny Pals of his sporting career with Fernando. The pair competed in CSIO5* shows worldwide including a fifth placing at the RDS Dublin Horse Show. Fernando won over €284,000, had 13 placings at 1.60m and a further 15 placings at 1.55m. They placed second in the CSI5* GCT/GCL 1.55m in Valkenswaard and Monte Carlo and fourth in the CSIO5* 1.60m in La Baule.
Fernando has had a long, resilient and successful career up to 18 years old. A “blood” and bay stallion he is regarded among the best performance sons of For Pleasure. From a Corrado I x Lord dam, it’s very clear to see where Fernando gets his smart appearance from. He has just arrived in early April to Ireland.
My Way and Fernando join an already prominent stallion roster at Drumhowan. These include the 5* show jumping stallions/sires Caracas, Caspar 232, Zapatero VDL, Colandro as well as Dakar VDL, Chalypso, Cascari, Cormint and Vittorio. Rounding the circle of choice are the two TB stallions Rosier and the 2024 RDS Croker Cup Champion Lucarelli.
Four distinguished Registered Irish Draught stallions are again available - they are the RDS Dublin Horse Show Performance Champion Gortfree Lakeside Lad and the RDS Champion sires Heigh Ho Dubh and Dunsandle Diamond. WGS Irish Rajah, the only RID stallion to gain Class 1 and Silver merit in show jumping as a five-year-old in over 10 years of inspections, helps complete this unique and premier selection for breeders in 2025. All stallions are available by AI nationwide.
