HANNAH Martin, a member of the locally-based Mullingar club, was presented with the Frank Mangan Memorial Trophy, following her win on Prince Darcy in the novice showing championship in Ring 2 on Sunday.

Martin first won the RCP1 showing class on her 10-year-old grey gelding, going on to stand champion over the novice class winners, Tynagh’s Jacinta Colohan and her Anglo European Studbook-registered Ashlea’s The Boss, a five-year-old piebald mare by Copilot. The introduction to showing class was won by Kerry’s Amanda Langston on her 11-year-old dun Connemara, Ballyard Ruby (by Capparoe Lad).

“I’ve had Darcy for three years,” said Martin, who works in HR. “We mainly stick to showing with a little bit of dressage; I hope we will be on the Mullingar team for the AIRC dressage championships. We’re heading to Athlone Show on Sunday (tomorrow) and will do a few other agricultural shows during the summer.”

Entertainment

Before the serious competition began on Saturday morning, the early arrivals at the Mullingar Equestrian Centre congregated in the Pavillion Bar on Friday evening for a table quiz.

Twenty-two teams, which were supposed to number four to a table, signed up for the quiz organised by Grainne Healy, who produced spot prizes for such talented attendees as the loudest singer, the best dancer and for providing the best team name. The bar was packed, everyone was in good form and the Headford Hunnies ran out the winners.
