THERE are two Grade 1s at Aqueduct tonight in lieu of the traditional meeting at Belmont Park, and the Belmont Derby and Oaks prizes could well be bound back to Britain.

Only five line up in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes (8.08pm) (surely a missed opportunity for some Irish stables to get Grade 1 placings?) over a mile, a furlong and a half. Charlie Appleby is represented by Legend Of Time with Wiliam Buick on board.

The Sea The Stars colt won the Grade 2 Pennine Ridge Stakes here in mid-May beating one of today’s rivals White Palomino.

That followed a fifth place when favourite to today’s rival, Trikari, trained by Graham Motion, who was one of the outsiders in the Grade 2 American Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs. Tikari was since only third in the Grade 3 Penn Mile Stakes.

Endlessly is the interesting one, switching back to turf after a ninth in the Kentucky Derby. He had won his earlier two races this season, a listed and Grade 3 contest.

In the Grade 1 Oaks (9.42pm) Cinderella’s Dream represents Appleby and Godolphin. She was seventh, beaten four and a half lengths behind Elmalka in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. That followed two wins at Meydan in the spring.

Appelby was quoted this week: “I feel she’ll be a big player on Saturday. She’s got plenty of experience under her belt and quick ground will suit her as well.”

Andrew Balding has found a good opportunity to attempt Grade 1 success for his Musidora Stakes winner Secret Satire, with Frankie Dettori taking the mount. She was only 10th of 12 behind Ezeliya in the Oaks at Epsom but this shorter distance should suit the daughter of Advertise better.

Cherie DeVaux and John Velazquez team up with likely favourite She Feels Pretty for Lael Stables.

A winner of her first two starts last year, including the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes at Woodbine, she was favourite for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf last year at Santa Anita and ran a wide, beaten a half-length, just behind Porta Fortuna. She won her only outing this year at Pimlico in a blacktype contest by over five lengths.

Segesta represents the formidable Chad Brown and Juddmonte team and she comes off two wins, the last in the Grade 2 Wonder Again Stakes here.

A French challenger comes from Jerome Reynier in the shape of Saint-Cloud Group 3 Prix Cleopatre runner-up Fun With Flags. That was her first defeat in four outings and she sold for €630,000 at Arqana’s pop-up sale in June and runs for owners Madaket Stables, Michael Kisber, Gainesway Stable, and Erika Gilliar.
