LUXEMBOURG, a Group 1 winner at two, three, four and five, will join the National Hunt stallion team in Castlehyde Stud for 2025.
Unbeaten at two, the son of Camelot was installed as winter favourite for the Derby, following his smooth victory in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Stakes.
He ran a hugely promising third in the 2000 Guineas behind the season’s leading milers Coroebus and Native Trail, but sustained an injury, which saw him miss his Epsom engagement.
However, he finished the season in style, defying Group 1 winners Onesto, Vadeni, Mishriff, Alenquer and Broome to win the Irish Champion Stakes.
In all, Luxembourg contested 19 races with further highlights coming in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup over 10 furlongs and the Group 1 Coronation Cup over a mile and a half earlier this year.
“He is a very serious horse,” commented his trainer Aidan O’Brien after the Epsom success. “He is tough and has loads of class.”
“We’re delighted to have Luxembourg join our team here in Castlehyde,” said Cathal Murphy. “He has a very similar profile to the much-missed Fame And Glory, in that he is a Group 1 winner at two, three, four and five years, and he is also from that wonderful Montjeu sire-line.
“Physically, he ticks every box, he has all the size, scope, strength and action you could ask for and he has shown incredible soundness and resilience throughout his extraordinary career. I have no doubt that Luxembourg will be a big hit with breeders.”
