Why are equine vets moving on?
THE problem of ‘Keeping Equine Vets in Equine Practice’ will be the main topic of discussion at an event in Burtown House, Athy, Co Kildare, on Wednesday, September 27th.
Organised by the Irish Equine Veterinary Association [IEVA], the event will focus on the level of retention of equine vets nationally and internationally. The IEVA says there is evidence of newly qualified vets increasingly choosing non-equine practice and is concerned at the number of equine vets leaving the sector.
Australian veterinary surgeon and consultant Alison Lambert of Onswitch has been secured as a keynote speaker. Lambert is decribed as “a successful disruptor and innovator in the field of the veterinary customer experience”.
Good Guess set for Tally-Ho Stud
THE impressive Group 1 Prix Jean Prat winner Good Guess has been retired and will stand at Tally-Ho Stud.
A son of Tally-Ho’s standout sire Kodiac, Good Guess was trained by Fabrice Chappet in France and won four races in all. He was an excellent winner of the Prix Jean Prat, pulling three lengths clear of his nearest rival, with Chaldean and Meditate behind him, while the runner-up Sauterne went on to win the Prix du Moulin.
Roger O’Callaghan commented: “Kodiac already has a number of successful sons at stud and, in Good Guess, we are delighted to be offering a son who was not only a precocious two-year-old but also trained on into the one of Europe’s best three-year-olds.
“He is also a very good-looking horse, as underlined by his yearling sales price of 420,000gns.”
Dubai Breeze-Up Sale cancelled

Recorder moves to Tipperary
LONGFORD House Stud in Templemore, Co Tipperary, will stand Recorder, a Group 3 winner bred and owned by the late Queen Elizabeth during his racing career, next year.
The son of Galileo had been standing under the Sumbe banner of Kazakh oil baron Nurlan Bizakov at Haras de Montfort et Preaux alongside the likes of Mishriff and Golden Horde.
A son of juvenile Group 2 winner Memory, Recorder only ran three times for the Queen, winning twice, including the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York. He will now stand alongside Rekindling, Sea’s Legacy (an unraced son of Green Desert and Urban Sea), Rajsaman and Burwaaz.
