FRANKEL and Dubawi are among the sires represented in the catalogue for next Friday’s Premier Yearling Sale which takes place in Iffezheim near Baden-Baden racecourse.
Last year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Torquator Tasso was bought for just €24,000 at the BBAG October Yearling Sale in 2018, while this year’s German Derby winner Sammarco was a €120,000 buy-back at the 2020 Premier Yearling Sale.
The Premier Sale has seen a top price of over €800,000 on a couple of occasions but the average price last year was €43,000, so there is definitely something to suit most budgets here.
The sale takes place towards the end of a festival week at the local track, which starts today (Saturday). There are Group 3 races today, tomorrow and Wednesday, along with some valuable auction races. Saturday. September 3rd is ‘ladies day’ and features a Group 2 contest, while the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Baden brings the racing week to a close on Sunday, September 4th.
Other notable sires with progeny in next Friday’s sale include Waldgeist (nine), Sea The Stars (eight), Soldier Hollow (11), Sea The Moon (10), Adlerflug (four) and Night Of Thunder. Among the first-crop sires with yearlings on offer is local stallion Best Solution. There are 13 lots in the sale by this son of Kodiac who won the Grosser Preis von Baden and Caulfield Cup, including a half-brother to this year’s Derby Italiano winner Ardakan.

SALON Scarlet, a two-year-old half-sister to this year’s German Derby winner Sammarco, topped last weekend’s online sale with BBAG when selling for €72,000. The unraced daughter of Saxon Warrior was bought by French agent Florent Fonteyne. There were 29 horses sold online at an average price of €13,310.
