A BUSY two weeks of sales in Newmarket begins on Monday with the December Yearling Sale, when up to 188 lots will come under the hammer.
As mentioned elsewhere on this page, this year’s dual Group 1 winner Vandeek was snapped up at this sale last year for only 42,000gns, while this year’s Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Via Sistina was a mere 5,000gns here in 2019.
This year’s catalogue features several own or half-siblings to star performers of recent years including the Frankel three parts brother to dual 1000 Guineas winner Hermosa and the Group 1 winners Hydrangea and The United States out of the excellent producer Beauty Is Truth, a Group 2-winning daughter of Pivotal.
Frankel’s sire Galileo is also represented in the catalogue by a three-parts brother to listed winner Hidden Dimples, the last yearling by the peerless 12-time champion sire to be offered at public auction.
Galileo’s half-brother Sea The Stars also has several well-related progeny catalogued including the own-brother to Group 2 winner Call Me Love and the half-brother to Group 1 winner Sortilege, out of the own-sister to German classic/Group 1 winners Schiaparelli, Salve Regina and Samum.
Other siblings to Group 1 winners include the Sottsass half-brother to Group 1 winning two-year-old Dubai Mile out of the Group 1 runner-up Beach Bunny.
In total there are own or half-brothers and sisters to 41 group and listed winners catalogued and 27 yearlings out of group and listed-winning dams, including five classic/Group 1 winners.
Highlights include the Dubawi colt out of German 1000 Guineas winner and multiple Group/Grade 1 placed Nyaleti, the Too Darn Hot colt out of Group 1 winner Voleuse De Coeurs, the Waldgeist colt out of Group 1 winner Blueridge Mountain and fillies out of Group 1 winners Temida and White Moonstone, by Sea The Moon and Blue Point respectively.
Other progeny of top-class racemares include the Lope De Vega colt out of Group 3 winner and Group 1 runner-up Vue Fantastique, and colts by Kingman out of the Group 3 winners La Saldana and Lightening Quick.
Buyers looking for future winners of valuable Tattersalls bonuses and sponsored races will not be short of choice with 11 yearlings eligible for the lucrative £25,000 Tattersalls October Book 1 Bonus Scheme, which will increase from £20,000 in 2024, and a further 18 yearlings eligible for the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes, alongside four yearlings eligible for the €250,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Stakes.
The catalogue also features 26 fillies already entered for the Great British Bonus and one lot qualified for French Owners’ Premiums.
Thirteen of the top 15 sires currently standing in Europe have yearlings catalogued including Acclamation, Churchill, Dark Angel, Dubawi, Frankel, Kingman, Kodiac, Lope De Vega, Night Of Thunder, No Nay Never, Sea The Stars, Starspangledbanner and Wootton Bassett, who have a total of 35 yearlings catalogued between them.
Several young sires who have impressed with their early crops of runners are also well represented including Blue Point, Cracksman, Havana Grey, Mehmas and Too Darn Hot, as well as American sire sensation Justify.
In addition there are plenty of yearlings on offer by exciting first crop sires including Group 1 and classic winners Earthlight, Ghaiyyath, Kameko, Mohaather, Persian King, Pinatubo, Sottsass, War Of Will and Without Parole.
