FIVE days of selling at Deauville start on Saturday next, November 12th, with a rest day on Sunday, before four more days of offerings. There is a huge selection and something for everyone. All lots, including a large number of wildcards, are available online at arqana.com
Flat yearlings
A total of 161 lots will be offered during the last rendezvous for flat-bred yearlings in France next Saturday, and buyers will have the opportunity to buy lots by Anodin, Churchill, Dabirsim, Gleneagles, Goken, Kendargent, Le Havre, Motivator, Saxon Warrior, Shalaa, Territories, The Grey Gatsby, Toronado, Zelzal and Zoffany to name a few. Sales, on each of the five days, will commence at 11am.
Sunday will give potential buyers plenty of time to check out the horses in training who will take up the day’s selling on Monday, November 14th. Some 250 lots or so, comprising both flat and National Hunt performers and prospects, will come under the hammer.
Offerings from some of the best European racing establishments will be offered. They include Gaucher (Lot 369) from the Wertheimer Brothers, a three-year-old son of Frankel and recent winner of the Prix de Solferino at ParisLongchamp.
The draft from the Aga Khan Studs include the promising Shaiyhar (372) who won on his second start in September. The three-year-old colt by Camelot is out of a Pivotal mare.
Stakes performers
Others in the draft include the stakes-placed Iffraaj colt Zanndabad (374), the group-placed Lope De Vega three-year-old colt Haziym (375), and the smart Mirabad (374), a juvenile winning son of Gleneagles.
Also from the flat, the blacktype winner Bel Aristo (353), the Group 2-placed Martial Eagle (359), and the stakes winner and Group 2 Prix Eugene Adam runner-up Caprice Des Dieux (361) will go under the hammer.
With jumping in mind, Angel’s Dream (403), Impact Du Bonheur (404) and Barrua (406) have all won on their most recent outings.
Wildcards
A winner of his last two starts over six and seven furlongs, the Bruno de Montzey-trained Corcovado (362) is one of the wildcard entries. The three-year-old currently has a rating of 95 and is from the family of classic winner Kris Kin. He is joined by the three-year-old Weston (363), an impressive winner on two occasions and most recently fourth in the Group 3 Länd Trophye. Trained by Andreas Suborics, the son of Soldier Hollow has a rating of 97.
Successful in the Listed Silbernes Band der Ruhr at Mülheim by 15 lengths at the beginning of last month, the Sarah Steinberg-trained Niagaro is Lot 376. The three-year-old son of Adlerflug is a half-brother to Group 2 German 1000 Guineas winner Novemba, and has a current rating of 106.
Over jumps, Elisabeth Allaire will offer Les Yeux Noirs (387). A winner on her debut over hurdles at Saint-Brieuc, the three-year-old daughter of Doctor Dino is from the close family of dual Group 1 winner Turgot. Also a winner on her debut at Fontainebleau, the Gabriel Leenders-trained Umfolozi will go under the hammer as Lot 397. The three-year-old daughter of Spanish Moon is from the family of this season’s Grade 1 winner Porticello. A smart winner on her debut over 12 furlongs, Joyeuse is Lot 398. The daughter of No Risk At All is the first foal out of a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Epatante.
Yearlings and stores to whet the appetite
JUST as Capodanno, Gentleman De Mee, Gaillard Du Mesnil and Greaneteen before, some 80 two-year-old stores and 230 National Hunt yearlings are expected to face the Arqana auctioneers at Deauville on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 15th and 16th.
Underlining the quality of the lots, 20% of the yearlings and 20% of the stores catalogued are siblings to blacktype horses. There are 27 siblings to graded winners in the catalogue, including 12 siblings to Grade 1 winners.
Many of the most established stallions are represented, such as Buck’s Boum, Cokoriko, Doctor Dino, Great Pretender, Kapgarde, Masked Marvel, Montmartre, Muhtathir, No Risk At All and Saint Des Saints, as well as young sires such as Beaumec De Houelle, Castle Du Berlais, Chœur Du Nord, Cloth Of Stars, Galiway, Goliath Du Berlais, Harzand, Highland Reel, Nirvana Du Berlais, The Grey Gatsby, and Walzertakt.

Breeding stock: keeping an eye on the future
ONCE again the last day of the Autumn Sale will be reserved for National Hunt breeding stock, fillies and foals.
This section has produced numerous top-class winners from mares that have been sold in the ring at Deauville, most notably Honeysuckle. Her dam Fille Royal was bought by TJ Bloodstock from Haras du Logis. Also produced from mares purchased at the Autumn Sale are recent Grade 1 winners Sire Du Berlais, Eric Bloodaxe and Lifetime Ambition.
This year, the National Hunt breeding section will bring together more than 230 well-bred mares, fillies and foals that will go under the hammer on Thursday, November 17th.
They have been further added to with three mares and fillies that will go through the ring as wild cards. They include Priority (800) by Kapgarde, a listed-placed hurdler and own-sister to Grade 2 winner Peace Garden. The pair are out of a half-sister to the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle winner Peace And Co.
Priority is trained by David Cottin, as is La Boetie (820), a winner of the Grade 3 Prix Sagan this season and placed in the Grade 3 Prix Hopper. She is a daughter of Saint Des Saints.
Mantissa (810), the dam of this season’s Auteuil grade winning hurdler Green book, is offered in foal to Cloth of Stars.
