Lot: 81 (c) Tamayuz – Red Halo

Vendor: Ringfort Stud

Purchaser: Ballyphilip Stud

Price: €80,000

An excellent year on the track for Tamayuz, which included Group 1 victories for Blond Me and Precieuse, meant that his foals were likely to be some demand this week.

The Nayef horse supplied several of the highest priced foals on the opening day, which included this colt whose dam was picked up for 13,000gns at the 2015 Tattersalls December Mares Sale.

When he returns to the sales ring this colt will hail from the noted nursery that is Paul and Marie McCartan’s Ballyphilip Stud. In recent seasons this farm has produced a series of top-class runners in Harry Angel, Battaash and Tiggy Wiggy.

Lot: 352 (c) Gutaifan – Oh Sedulous

Vendor: Ballylinch Stud

Purchaser: Yeomanstown Stud

Price: €120,000

Among the sires to make a big impression with their first crop of foals was former dual Group 2-winning juvenile Gutaifan.

The Dark Angel horse was responsible for 37 foals through Part I of the sale and 32 of these sold to return an impressive €49,188 average which represents a fine return on his €12,500 covering fee. This colt was an especially taking sort and he is out of a Lawman half-sister to the dam of the multiple Group 1 scorer Shirocco.

Lot: 633 (c) Gleneagles – Sogno Verde

Vendor: Swordlestown Little

Purchaser: Ted Naughton

Price: €170,000

The dual Guineas winner Gleneagles was represented by eight members of his first crop this week and the most expensive of these was this well-related filly. The half-sister to the Group 2 winner Lilbourne Lad and the Group 3-placed Bobbyscot comes from a fine family that has more than stood the test of time and it is no surprise that the progeny of Sogno Verde have repeatedly featured amongst the top lots at this sale over the last number of years.

Lot: 655 (c) Muhaarar – Vanishing Grey

Vendor: Springfort Park Stud

Purchaser: Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock

Price: €235,000

There were just three foals on offer this week hailing from the first crop of the top sprinter Muhaarar and they made quite an impression with the trio averaging just over €258,000. The most expensive of these was bought by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum for €340,000 and this colt will return to the sales ring next autumn after being picked up by Ross Doyle. An impressive type, he is out of a stakes-placed half-sister to the dual Group 1-winning sprinter Kingsgate Native.

Lot: 661 (c) Starspangledbanner – Welcome Spring

Vendor: Betaghstown Stud

Purchaser: Grove Stud

Price: €140,000

The results achieved by Starspangledbanner with his first crop of runners were striking. Indeed statistics such as 21% stakes winners to runners from his first northern hemisphere crop (which hit the track in 2014) ensured that there was good demand for his progeny this week. The sire’s most expensive offering of the week came in the shape of this colt and he bought for resale by Brendan Holland. He hails from the family of the top class Alamshar.
