THE sale of Gloam for 4,000,000gns was the highlight of the week’s trade and her sale is covered elsewhere. The third day saw five yearlings sell for seven-figure sums and four of these were produced from outstanding racemares.
Cassandra Go won the King’s Stand Stakes and she was runner-up in the Group 1 July Cup. She has enjoyed an even more distinguished career at stud and is dam of the Irish 1000 Guineas and multiple Group 1 winner Halfway To Heaven.
That mare, in turn, bred last weekend’s Group 1 Prix de l’Opera winner Rhododendron and the recent Moyglare Stud Stakes runner-up Magical, while Cassandra Go’s Group 3 winning daughter Theann is the dam of dual Grade 1 winner Photo Call.
There was little surprise that the Invincible Spirit filly out of Cassandra Go would be popular, Trevor Stewart sold her through James Hanly’s Ballyhimikin Stud for 1,600,000gns and she will now be trained by Aidan O’Brien after her purchase by MV Magnier.
Shadwell Estate Company was to the fore on Thursday and bought two sons of Dubawi out of exceptional racemares. Newsells Park consigned the son of Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Danedream on behalf of Teruya Yoshida and he sold for 1,500,000gns, while the yearling son of dual 1000 Guineas winner Attraction cost Sheikh Hamdan’s team 1,350,000gns.
Shadwell also invested 650,000gns in a daughter of Invincible Spirit whose dam is a half-sister to Grade 1 performers Bonfire and Joviality. She was sold by Highclere Stud.
Bobby Flay, through Baroda and Colbinstown Studs, sold a daughter of War Front and the stakes-placed Montjeu mare Auld Alliance to Shadwell for 550,000gns.
Kerri Radcliffe Bloodstock made a couple of significant purchases on the day. The Fagan’s Deerpark Stud struck gold when it sold a son of Sea The Stars, the first foal of a winning daughter of Shamardal, for 1,000,000gns, a handsome advance on his foal valuation of just 190,000gns. A little earlier Radcliffe gave 600,000gns for a son of Lope De Vega from Yeomanstown Stud, the second living produce of the Group 3 winning juvenile Dolled Up.
Gay and David O’Callaghan’s Yeomanstown sold a daughter of their stallion Dark Angel to SackvilleDonald and she is the second foal from Group 1 winner Pipalong’s half-sister Cut No Ice. The dam’s first foal is Frozen Angel, a full-brother to this 825,000gns yearling, and he was runner-up this season in the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin.
SPENDING SPREE
The SackvilleDonald spending spree continued apace and added to their list of 28 yearlings bought was Highclere Stud’s Frankel half-brother to stakes-winner Black Arrow for 700,000gns, and Lofts Hall Stud’s Kingman half-sister to the Grade 1 placed Concise who cost 550,000gns.
Two daughters of Galileo were traded for 800,000gns each on the day. First to the mark was Barronstown Stud’s full-sister Ernest Hemingway and she sold to Narvick International, while Camas Park Stud’s filly is a full-sister to the dual classic winner Capri and Amanda Skiffington signed for her.
Genesis Green Stud’s Shamardal daughter of Cloud Castle, placed in the Group 1 Prix Vermeille, is a half-sister to the dam of last year’s Breeders’ Cup winner Queen’s Trust and her 680,000gns purchase price will be shared by a group including David Redvers. Roger Varian’s bid of 650,000gns secured the Dubawi colt out of Finsceal Beo from Al Eile Stud, a long way short of the 1,450,000gns price at which he was retained as a foal.
Iffraaj’s yearling filly from Manor Farm Stud cost Godolphin 525,000gns, while a Frankel half-sister to Group 1 winner Hartnell was a 500,000gns purchase by Narvick International from Highclere Stud.
