A MARE in foal to first season sire Slade Power was, as expected, the most popular lot at the July Mixed Sale in Goresbridge on Friday last. Offered from Windgates Farm, the unraced four-year-old Sahaayef, a daughter of Mawatheeq, was sold for €22,000 to Aidan O’Ryan.

Due to foal next January, Sahaayef is a half-sister to three stakes horses and her listed winning dam is a half-sister to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner and Derby runner-up Sakhee. Celestial Storm, Mastercraftsman and Beautiful Romance all appear close up in the family.

Windgates Farm was also responsible for the second highest price on the day, selling the Elnadim mare Afraas, in foal to another first season sire in Shooting To Win, to Ashlodge Stud for €10,500. This unraced half-sister to a juvenile winner if from a family replete with stakes winners.

Aidan O’Ryan made a second significant purchase when he paid €5,000 for the unraced two-year-old Clodovil filly Great Aventura from Ciemme Stables. A half-sister to four winners, her winning dam is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Compton Bolter and to the dam of the champion two-year-old filly Bezelle.

Better B Quick won twice over fences last year and the 10-year-old son of Overbury sold to Michael Murphy for €2,800. He is one of four winners from his winning dam and he was consigned from Paul Stafford’s Hawthorn Lodge for owner Joe Keeling.

Small Acre Stud sold a three-year-old unbroken son of Arakan to Anthony Twiss for €2,700. The half-brother to the useful Gold Patrol is out of a dual point-to-point winner and the third dam bred the smart chaser Ossmoses.

The unraced two-year-old Ghurba, a daughter of Aqlaam and the listed winner Mahaatheer was bought by Ardmayle House Stud for €2,600. Bred by Shadwell the filly’s first four dams were winners and the filly has a yearling half-sister by Sea The Stars and a Shamardal half-brother born this year.

Lacken Stud sold a three-year-old son of Sandmason whose female line traces back to Lady Artist II, the winning dam of a dozen winners that were headed by Artifice, Bigaroon and Cnoc Dubh and is the immediate family of the Grand National winner Amberleigh House. The sale was recorded to a cash purchaser for €2,500.

A total of 35 lots sold for an aggregate of €75,450. The average was €2,156.
