THE well-related Moqadama will return to the UK after topping the Tattersalls Online July Sale at 160,000gns. The own-sister to dual Group 1-winner Khaadem was initially listed as unsold but a private deal was soon struck, with Fortune Bloodstock the buyer.

Andrea Brereton of Fortune Bloodstock revealed the daughter of Dark Angel had been purchased on behalf of a client. “Obviously the Khaadem update was a huge positive for the family,” she said. “My client really loves American Pharoah and the opportunity to breed something by him also attracted us. The depth of the mare’s pedigree caught our eye with a predominantly turf pedigree and the plan is to bring her back to the UK to breed from.”

Moqadama’s first sales date came at Tattersalls Book 1, where breeder Yeomanstown Stud sold the bay to Shadwell Estate Company for 390,000gns, and after placing on three occasions for Charlie Hills, she was resold at the venue’s December Sale to John McCormack for 110,000gns.

Subsequently sent to Mark Casse, she got off the mark in Canada and produced her first foal, a Mendelssohn filly, earlier this year. Offered online from Castleton Lyons in Kentucky, she carries a March 21st cover to American Pharoah.

Hawkens joins Haggas from Hannon

Sam Haggas’s Hurworth Bloodstock signed for the next most expensive lot of the sale, the 88-rated Galileo colt Sam Hawkens. Offered by Richard Hannon’s East Everleigh Stables, the Westerberg homebred won a Salisbury maiden by four and a half lengths in May but reportedly disliked the firmer ground on his next two starts.

Progressive three-year-old Glor Tire will transfer from Jim Bolger to Jane Chapple-Hyam after selling to Transatlantic Thoroughbreds for 82,000gns. The daughter of Teofilo was offered with an official rating of 96 following four wins from six starts this season.

Joseph O’Brien’s Carriganog Racing sold three of their four offerings, led by Rochestown Lodge Stud’s 40,000gns purchase of Nemonte.

A total of 97 lots offered produced an aggregate of 918,700gns - the second highest turnover to be achieved by the Tattersalls Online platform. 65% found buyers for an average price of 14,583gns, while the median came in at 5,000gns. The company reported a record number of 325 bidders registered for the sale from over 20 countries including America, Belgium, Britain, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands, Zambia and from throughout the Gulf region.
