JUDDMONTE moved from their traditional selling day to offer their entire consignment at the opening session. The usual appetite for their draft was evident and the 23 lots sold averaged 68,565gns. Five lots contributed well in excess of half of the total.

Tim Cohen of Red Barons Farm combined with Rancho Temescal to pay 320,000gns, they most they have spent at Newmarket for a horse, and this was for the Amanda Perrett-trained Sash. A three-time winner this year, the three-year-old son of Oasis Dream is from the famous Juddmonte family of Hasili, dam of five Group or Grade 1 winners and of Dansili.

“He is a lovely physical, and you have to pay to get quality. It is more than I wanted to spend, but I didn’t want to let him go either,” said Cohen. “This horse likes firm ground, which is important going to California.”

Five time winner

Another son of Oasis Dream to sell well was Imaging. His five victories from Dermot Weld’s Rosewell House include the Group 3 Gladness Stakes and a pair of listed races. He will head down under to join Chris Waller following his sale for 260,000gns.

The first of the Juddmonte draft was the Ralph Beckett-trained Biometric and this three-year-old son of Bated Breath enjoyed the best of his three wins when annexing the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot during the summer.

Tattersalls’ Jason Singh took instructions by telephone and his successful bid of 130,000gns was on behalf of the Hayes family at Lindsay Park in Victoria, Australia.

Yet another of the Juddmonte lots heading to Australia is Price Range, a three-time winner, including on the all-weather, for Pascal Bary in France. A son of First Defence and out of the Grade 1 winner Price Tag, he cost Blandford Bloodstock and Ciaron Maher Racing 105,000gns.

This was one bid more than de Burgh Bloodstock and Darby Racing paid for Spirit Ridge, another heading to Australia where he is being syndicated. Now a four-year-old, this son of Nathaniel won twice over a mile and a half last year and he is out of the dual Grade 1 winning mare Tates Creek.
