TO varying degrees, a total of 19 sires were represented by their first yearlings at Tattersalls Ireland this week with the Australian Group 1 winner Epaulette taking centre stage after supplying the €150,000 sale topper.
A half-brother to Helmet, who had his first runners this year, Epaulette supplied 13 lots of which 10 were sold for an average of €31,000 and he was among half a dozen first crop sires whose representation came in at double figures this week.
The largest offering came from the popular Red Jazz and midway through yesterday’s session the Johannesburg horse had supplied 34 lots of which 26 were sold for an average of over €20,000.
In terms of numbers Red Jazz was closely followed by former Tally-Ho Stud resident Society Rock, who passed away earlier this year. Society Rock had 28 lots catalogued and they too found favour with 24 of the sire’s first 26 offering to come under the hammer finding buyers.
Jim Bolger’s dual champion Dawn Approach had just three offspring for sale but these yielded a €75,000 colt who Eamonn Reilly purchased on behalf of a client with Karl Burke. Similarly, Camelot had just four members of his first crop on offer and they averaged €25,000. We should be hearing a good deal more about both sires in the coming weeks.
Elsewhere, several English-based sires were well-represented with the talented sprinter Swiss Spirit supplying 10 lots for an average of just over €21,050 and a top price of €55,000.
The Prix Jean Prat hero Havana Gold also supplied 10 lots that sold for an average of over €24,000 and he too achieved a top price of €55,000.
