THE latest chapter in the success story that is Khatela was written at Goodwood last weekend when the Richard Hannon trained Forgotten Wish won a maiden over six furlongs on her second start. Carrying the colours of Middleham Park Racing, this two-year-old daughter of Lilbourne Lad looks to be progressive and delighted her connections with the manner of her success.

Forgotten Wish was bred by Swordlestown Little, the breeding name of Des Leadon and Dr Mariann Klay which is situated not far from Punchestown racecourse. What makes the victory of Forgotten Wish even more special is that the couple also bred the sire and this winner is from the Rathbarry Stud stallion’s first crop of runners. This was his 11th individual winner.

Lilbourne Lad only raced at two and the son of Acclamation was never out of the first four in eight starts. His principal success was in the Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Railway Stakes and he ran second in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and to Casper Netscher in the Gimcrack Stakes.

Forgotten Wish is the 11th living produce of her dam Khatela and all of them have run, showing a huge degree of soundness in the family. She is the eighth winner for her dam and two more have been placed. Two of the winners earned blacktype, with the Marju colt Massive winning a listed race and being group-placed, while Irish Kind, a son of Cape Cross, was listed-placed in France.

Though now 20 years of age, Khatela, an Aga Khan-bred daughter of Shernazar, had a filly foal this year and this is a full-sister to Forgotten Wish. Sold for €50,000 as a foal to Pier House Stud, Forgotten Wish was resold 11 months later at Goffs again and made €75,000 when bought by Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock.
