GRANGEMORE Stud is now owned by Guy O’Callaghan but the tradition of breeding good horses there stretches back for many years. Sadly the death of John Colleran on October 1st two years ago led to a dispersal of the stock at the farm. One mare, Bounce, which was retained by John’s partner Geraldine Lynch Burke, continues to highlight John’s achievements as a breeder.

Last weekend in Sweden half a length denied Bounce the honour of breeding two stakes winners, not just on the same day but at the same meeting. The Hurricane Run five-year-old Hurricane Red finished second to Bank Of Burden in the Group 3 Stockholm Cup International, having finished third and fourth in the race previously. Next year perhaps he will go one better.

The 2013 Swedish Derby winner is trained by Lennart Reuterskiold and his other victories include the Group 3 Stockholms Stora Pris.

On the same card the three-year-old filly Icecapada, a daughter of Mastercraftsman and the aforementioned Bounce, ran out a three-length winner of the Listed Lanwades Stud Stakes over a mile at Taby and she is handled by the champion Norwegian trainer Niels Peterson.

Earlier this year she too became a classic winner, landing the Swedish 1000 Guineas.

Hurricane Red and Icecapada are two of the three winners produced so far by Bounce, and the third is also a stakes winner. She is Bernieres, a daughter of Montjeu who won a listed race in France a few years ago. With three stakes winners already from her first six foals, and a two-year-old son by Pour Moi that sold for €110,000 last year, Geraldine can look forward to offering Bounce’s yearling colt by the ultra-hot first season sire Canford Cliffs at the Tattersalls Yearling Sale in late November.

Bounce is by Trempolino, was bred by the Wertheimers and won two races in France. She was sold for 130,000gns as a four-year-old, in foal to Dubawi, to Brian Grassick Bloodstock and joined the broodmare band at Grangemore. That resulting produce, the only one of her dam’s foals of racing age not to do so, is named Aweebounce and she has a Duke Of Marmalade colt for sale next Thursday at Goffs from Rathasker Stud.

Bounce is a half-sister to the Rainbow Quest colt Simplex, a stakes winner and runner-up in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud. Their Green Dancer winning dam Russyskia is a half-sister to the champion French stayer and Group 1 winner Top Sunrise.
