THOMOND O’Mara’s Knockanglass Stables is one of the leaders when it comes to consigning at the breeze-up sales. This year is no different and he has nine colts heading to the Goffs UK Sale later this month.
One of the group travelling to Doncaster is a son of Bated Breath (Dansili), the Banstead Manor stallion who has made a great start at stud and whose fourth crop of racing age are this year’s crop of two-year-olds. A dozen of his 17 blacktype horses have earned this at two and the best of them to date has been the Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed Beckford.
The sale chances of Thomond’s Bated Breath received a boost during the week when his three-year-old half-sister Gregarious Girl, a daughter of the now Rathasker Stud-based Gregorian (Clodovil), won in Italy, improving on her placed efforts in a Windsor maiden and a Newcastle handicap when she was trained in England by Stuart Williams. She was sold on February at Tattersalls and has rewarded her new connections quickly.
Gregarious Girl is just the second foal for her dam Wiki Tiki (Dixie Union) who was bred by Newsells Park Stud and was trained by Stuart Williams to win over five furlongs as a three-year-old. She is one of a pair of winners for Witten (Fusaichi Pegasus), a $300,000 yearling who was a listed winner at two in France. That mare comes from the family of Raven’s Pass (Elusive Quality), the champion miler of his year in Europe and sire of last year’s Group 1 winning juvenile Royal Marine.
