HOMEBRED by the Wertheimer brothers, Polydream scaled Group 1 heights on Sunday when she landed the Prix Maurice de Gheest. Last year she won the Group 3 Prix du Calvados and was runner-up in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac, and she is another top-flight winner whose dam was sold prior to the victory.

Unlike the dam of Well Timed, who sold for €4,000, the dam of Polydream cost Ecurie des Monceaux €200,000 in a private deal at the Arqana December Sale in 2015. The foal she was carrying, the now two-year-old filly Big Brothers Pride (Invincible Spirit), made that price look like value when she sold as last year’s Deauville Yearling Sale for €400,000 to Meridian International. A real case of win-win for Monceaux.

HALF-SISTER

Polydream is a half-sister to Evaporation (Red Ransom) who was a dual listed winner in France and placed numerous times at group level. Their dam Polygreen, by Green Tune (Green Dancer), was a listed winner in France and runner-up in the Grade 3 Monrovia Handicap at Santa Anita.

Like her daughter Polygreen, Yxenery (Sillery) was also a listed winner, but in her case she did it twice. She was also repeating the feat of her dam Polyxena (Lyphard), the third dam of last weekend’s Group 1 heroine.

The unbroken line of stakes winners ends with Polydream’s fourth dam, though she was no slouch! A winner at two, she was runner-up in the Group 1 Criterium des Pouliches and at stud half of her six winning progeny won at stakes level.

Champion at two in Europe and champion sprinter at three, Oasis Dream won the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and the Group 1 July Cup. His 16 Group 1 winners include a number of leading fillies, none more so than Midday who won six times at the highest level. Other daughters include Jwala, Lady Jane Digby and Tuscan Evening.
