MALRESCIA won for the second time this season when she beat colts and geldings over six furlongs at Lingfield, following up on an earlier success at Hamilton. She was travelling a furlong more this time, and her victories over five and six furlongs were both, coincidentally, by a margin of four and a quarter lengths. She is one smart juvenile and must be noted.
Bred by Airlie Stud and Sonia Rogers, who have been enjoying great success of late with runners produced at their nursery, Malrescia was purchased by Peter and Antoinette Kavanagh in Kildaragh Stud as a foal at Goffs for €140,000. An own-sister to the French stakes winner Testa (Acclamation), she is also a half-sister to the Group 3 Henry II Stakes winner Lismore (Zoffany).
Rathbarry Stud’s Acclamation, whose 16th crop of juveniles Malrescia is amongst, is flying, and he has worked well with this female line too. Tecla (Whipper), the winning dam of Malrescia, is a half-sister to Acclamation’s Group 3 winning and Group 1 placed son Johnny Barnes, a young sire in France. In addition, Tecla’s own-sister Malaspina (Whipper) is the dam of a pair of group winners, including the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes winner and 1000 Guineas third Daban (Acclamation).
This is a family that gives and gives, and Tecla’s half-sister Pembina (Dalakhani) is the dam of the 2022 Group 3 winner Meditate (No Nay Never), unbeaten at two this year.
