DAYS after the publication of the Tattersalls October Sale Book 1 catalogue, and the pedigree of Lot 279 is already redundant.
The offering, from breeders Tally-Ho Stud, is a daughter of sire sensation Mehmas (Acclamation) and the fourth offspring of the winning Balmont (Stravinsky) mare Soft Power. She, as her name might suggest, was trained by Eddie Lynam for David and Sabena Power.
A €16,000 yearling purchase, Soft Power won on her debut at Dundalk but failed to build on that on five subsequent outings. Despatched to the sales at Goffs in February 2015, she still profited her owners when selling for €60,000 to Tally-Ho. After all, her half-sister Girl Power (Key Of Luck), also a winner for the Powers and Lynam, bred the champion sprinter £1 million-plus earner Slade Power (Dutch Art).
Bred in her first two years at stud to Kodiac (Danehill), she produced a minor winner and a placed horse, but she struck gold with her third foal, the two-year-old Ebro River.
That colt, running for Al Shaqab Racing who raced his sire, added the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh to a previous win in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown.
This is a continuation of the remarkable start at stud for Galileo Gold (Paco Boy), with three of his eight winners being stakes winners, and another being group-placed.
A Group 1 winner of the 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes, Galileo Gold is living up to his name, and Tally-Ho look set to capitalise handsomely on the latest Group 1 winner bred at the Co Westmeath nursery.
