SHIRLEY Livingstone bred the Grade 1 Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase winner Some Plan, who finished alone to capture the more than €50,000 first prize at Leopardstown on Sunday. Racing for Roger Brookhouse and trained by the in-form Henry de Bromhead, the nine-year-old was gaining his first piece of blacktype.

Joe Magee bought the son of Winged Love as a foal at Tattersalls Ireland for just €1,300 and the gelding was withdrawn from the Goffs Land Rover Sale as a four-year-old. Having finished runner-up in a bumper at Down Royal on his debut from Brian Hamilton’s yard, he was despatched to the Brightwells Cheltenham Sale and sold to Brookhouse for £40,000.

Previously raced from Tom George’s and Paul Nicholls’ yards, he has done best for his current handler and more than paid back his purchase price – with interest. That said, he has to be considered a fortunate winner of a Grade 1, though the pedigree page in any future catalogue that contains a member of this family does not differentiate between blacktype winners.

Some Plan is one of just three foals produced by the Classic Cliché mare Lough Hyne. She ran once in a point-to-point and was whisked off to stud. Her first foal was an Oscar filly named Aine Saor and she was placed a couple of times in points. Some Plan followed and later she foaled a full-brother to the Grade 1 winner. This now six-year-old is named Classic Graf but is unraced.

Lough Hyne is a half-sister to a couple of minor winners, and their dam, by Oats, was a half-sister to Smart Tar. That son of Seaepic won five chases, notably the Golden Miller Chase and the Mildmay Of Flete Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. He was the best runner for his Menelek dam I’m Smart, winner of 11 races, of which seven were chases. I’m Smart’s siblings included the Feltham Novices’ Chase (now a Grade 1 race) winner Duke Of Milan.
