GEMOLOGIST is a sire I mentioned here already this year and for whom I predicted a bright future. Last weekend he sired his first stakes winner in his first crop and it was the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes heroine Yellow Agate. The winner’s grandam Flabbergasted, by Sadler’s Wells, is an own-sister to Dewhurst Stakes winner and sire Scenic.
Evie Stockwell bred the Galileo filly Photo Call and this Grade 1 winner, sold for $3 million last November, added the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes to her record at Keeneland. She is now a six-time winner of more than $825,000. Her dam Theann, by Rock Of Gibraltar, is a Group 3 winner and half-sister to Halfway To Heaven, winner of the Irish 1000 Guineas and dam of the recent Group 1 Dubai Fillies’ Mile winner Rhododendron.
Winner of the Group 1 Inglis Sires Stakes last year and runner-up in the Golden Slipper, Yankee Rose became the first filly to win the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick last weekend. The leading runner by All American, she is the best produce of Condesaar, a daughter of Xaar and a half-sister to the Group 1 Mercedes Derby winner Redoute’s Dancer. The third dam of Yankee Rose is the 1981 Yorkshire Oaks winner Condessa who was second in the Irish Oaks. This is also the family of Dewhurst Stakes winner Tout Seul.
