AT the upcoming Goffs February Sale, Ballylinch Stud is consigning Lot 143, a yearling filly by their hugely successful resident stallion Beat Hollow (Sadler’s Wells). The yearling is catalogued as a most attractive half-sister to a pair of blacktype winning granddaughters of Sadler’s Wells (Northern Dancer) through the former Ballylinch-owned sire in King’s Theatre, but the pedigree received yet another boost last weekend.

The pair of blacktype winners, Katie Too and The Pirate’s Queen, are now joined by yet another, the fillies’ own-brother The Dutchman (King’s Theatre) who recorded the most important of his three career wins to date, winning the Grade 2 Peter Marsh Chase. This trio of blacktype winners are the first three foals and runners for their dam Shivermetimber, herself a Grade 3 winning chaser and a daughter of Arctic Lord (Lord Gayle).

The Dutchman was bred by Regina Anne Hennessy and sold by her, through Ballylinch Stud, in a private deal at the 2010 Tattersalls Ireland November Sale. John Duggan bought him for €19,000 and he turned a healthy profit when selling him as a three-year-old at the same company’s Derby Sale from Long House Stables to Tim Hyde. His foal price tripled to €57,000 on this occasion.

The Dutchman ran twice in point-to-points for Trish Hyde, on the second occasion starting favourite with Jamie Codd in the saddle and beaten only a length into third place.

He was then in the care of Charlie Swan but later changed hands and stables and went to Sandy Thomson in Scotland. He won over hurdles and fences for Thomson and was graded-placed over the smaller obstacles before moving home again, this time to Colin Tizzard. This was his first victory for Tizzard.

In the wings for Shivermetimber are a four-year-old filly named Mile From The Moon, a three-year-old gelding (sold for €38,000 as a foal to Dick Frisby) and a two-year-old filly (sold for €36,000 as a foal to Old Rectory Stud), all by Beat Hollow. Her soon to be offered yearling is her seventh offspring.

Shivermetimber was trained by the late Francis Flood and won six times. She was guided to a bumper success by Liz Doyle and gained her biggest win under Barry Geraghty when landing the Grade 2 Dawn Run Novice Chase at Limerick. She came close to winning the Grade 3 Grand National Trial Chase at Punchestown. She is the best of the winners from Cherry Dancer (Monskfield), herself a bumper winner.

Shivermetimber is a half-sister to the unraced Daizinni (Dr Massini) and her best runner to date is Daisy’s Gift (Presenting), and she won a race her grandam also took, capturing the now Grade 2 Dawn Run Novice Chase at Limerick last year. This is a great, old-fashioned Irish jumping pedigree, including the likes of Power Gold Cup winner Sean Ogue (Le Tricolore), Punchestown Festival winner Flying Ferret (Le Bavard), Cheltenham Grade 1 winner Lord Noelie (Lord Americo), Tripleprint Gold Cup winner Addington Boy (Callernish), and current chaser Forever Gold (Gold Well).
