2.35 ONLINE AT LIMERICKRACES.IE (M) MAIDEN HURDLE 2M

Just an ordinary mares’ maiden hurdle and preference is given to the Jessica Harrington-trained The Birdie Crowe.

The six-year-old won bumpers at Punchestown and Gowran Park prior to making an encouraging hurdling debut when second to Law Girl at Roscommon earlier this month. She is entitled to come on from that initial hurdling experience and she will take plenty of beating.

The Henry De Bromhead-trained High School Days looks to be the biggest danger to the selection despite having finished just behind her at Roscommon.

Highly-competitive fare and the one that makes the most appeal is the Eric McNamara-trained Tough But Honest.

The five-year-old has only had five starts over hurdles and showed significant improvement in what was his second start in a handicap at Listowel last time, finishing second to Davids Charm. It wouldn’t at all surprise to see him improve again from that and a bold bid can be expected to be forthcoming.

Of his rivals, the James Dullea-trained Line View makes appeal on his return to hurdling off a 15lb lower mark than he has earned over fences.

Another competitive handicap and Gordon Elliott may have the answer in the shape of Presenting Julio. The nine-year-old has been progressing well since joining Elliott earlier this year, winning three of his seven starts. He registered a particularly impressive victory at Roscommon last time and a 9lb higher mark might not be enough to stop him following up in this contest.

Of the rest, the Ted Walsh-trained Salsa Sensation could well do better back over this longer trip.

4.20 LIMERICK GAA CHASE 2M 2F

Enda Bolger turns Ballyoisin out for this just a few days after winning a valuable handicap chase at Killarney, but it looks to be an excellent opportunity for him to secure another victory.

The six-year-old is clearly progressing well over fences and with both these weights and the prevailing conditions being likely to very much suit him, he will be tough to beat.

The biggest danger to him looks to be the Henry De Bromhead-trained Attribution, with the seven-year-old having established a smart level of form in novice chases last season.

Edward O’Grady might hold a winning hand in the shape of The West’s Awake. The six-year-old is out of the high-class racemare Bilboa and has progressed into a useful hurdler, just getting touched off in a conditions hurdle at Limerick last time. He appeals as being one that will make a chaser and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him make a winning chasing debut in this.

The best of the rest may prove to be the Henry De Bromhead-trained Burndown.

Yet another competitive handicap and the Eoin Doyle-trained Roevin Star is given the nod. The seven-year-old comes into this in fine form having won a handicap chase at Wexford prior to finishing third back at that track over a short trip on his latest outing.

The return to this longer trip could well be the key to his prospects in this contest and he can be expected to run very well.

The pick of the remainder looks to be the Joseph O’Brien-trained Kilclispeen, with the seven-year-old being open to further improvement over fences.

An interesting fillies’ bumper to close the card and of those with form in the book, the Paul Nolan-trained Getaway Katie makes the most appeal.

The daughter of Getaway shaped with promise on her debut in a mares’ bumper at Downpatrick last month, finishing third to Decision Time. She seems sure to improve from that and is likely to go close.

Of the newcomers, the Willie Mullins-trained Irish Lass immediately catches the eye being a half-sister to a number of useful sorts, mostly notably Airlie Beach.

Market support for her would obviously be very significant, as she won’t need to be a star to make a winning debut in this.
