BOW Creek is a really durable son of Shamardal who won Group 2 races in three different countries - England, Ireland and Australia - and he returned to Europe to start his stud career in 2017 at the Haras du Logis in France. He will have his first runners this year.

Altogether Bow Creek had six wins from 24 starts spread over four years and earned £381,625 in prize money. Trained by Mark Johnston, Bow Creek scored twice as a two-year-old, coming home three lengths clear at Chester, then three weeks later he won the Dubai Duty Free Nursery at Newbury by six lengths.

Improving steadily at three, he was in action in April to win the Listed International Trial Stakes at Lingfield Park, then was second in the Listed Dee Stakes at Chester, beaten only a length by Kingfisher, before finishing a close second of 30 runners in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot, carrying top weight. Still improving, with Racehorses of 2014 assessing him on 119, Bow Creek won the Group 2 Celebration Mile at Goodwood in August by over a length, before adding the Group 2 Solonaway Mile at Leopardstown in September, defeating Gordon Lord Byron.

In 2015 the decision was made to send Bow Creek to race in Australia, where he began by running a close second to Group 1 star Turn Me Loose in the Group 2 Schweppes Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley.

Then in February 2016 he won the Group 2 Peter Young St George Stakes over nine furlongs at Caulfield. In his final start in Australia he was a very creditable fifth of 15 behind the brilliant Winx in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick.

Bow Creek’s sire Shamardal, a son of Giant’s Causeway, was a champion at two and three years, winning the French Derby, the Poule d’Essai and the Dewhurst Stakes. He has already sired 141 blacktype winners, 25 of which have scored at Group 1 level, including Blue Point, Pinatubo, Earthlight, Lope De Vega, Casamento and Mukhadram.

Beneventa, the dam of Bow Creek, won seven races including the Group 3 Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket. She has produced five winners, among them Dare To Dance who won three races in Europe before also going to Australia, where he was placed in two group events. Beneventa’s dam was a half-sister to Bay Empress, winner of the Group 3 Brownstown Stakes at the Curragh.
