A GROUP-placed winner on both sides of the Atlantic, Due Diligence was the top-rated three-year-old sprinter in Ireland in 2014. Now standing alongside Showcasing at Whitsbury Manor Stud in Hampshire, he was one of the top half-dozen first crop sires in 2019, with 20 individual winners of 32 races and €453,316 in prize money.
They included Streamline, who took the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes at Kempton, and Good Vibes, winner of the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes at Newmarket and the Listed Marygate Stakes at York. She also placed third in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes, and sold for 390,000gns at the Tattersalls December Sales. Sir Boris won the Listed Blenheim Stakes at Fairyhouse and was third in the Group 2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte.
An American-bred son of the very successful sire War Front, Due Diligence raced only twice at two in the USA in 2013, winning a maiden race at Saratoga on his debut, before running fourth to Grade 1 star Bobby’s Kitten in the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont Park.
Moved to Aidan O’Brien in Ireland for his three-year-old season, Due Diligence was never out of the money in four starts that year. Third first time out, he then won a six-furlong handicap at Naas in May by a length and a half, before adding the Listed Lacken Stakes over the same course and distance by three lengths.
Sent to Royal Ascot for the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes, he was a close second to Slade Power in a strong field of 14 runners, but injured a shoulder that day which brought a premature end to his season. His total career earnings were £205,817.
War Front, the sire of Due Diligence, is one of the best sprinting sons of Danzig (sire also of Danehill and Green Desert), with a 2020 stud fee of $250,000. He has already sired 87 stakes winners, 21 of which have been successful at Group/Grade 1 level, including the 2019 Preakness Stakes hero War Of Will, while his sons Air Force Blue, U S Navy Flag and War Command all won the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.
Due Diligence’s dam Bema, a grey daughter of Pulpit, won the Listed Busher Stakes at Aqueduct and has produced six winners, including the graded stakes-placed Ocasta. The next dam Dhaka won eight races, including stakes at Laurel and Monmouth, and her seven winners include the stakes scorer Deodar, while she is grandam of three other American blacktype winners.
