THE exciting French jumps stallion Jeu St Eloi joined the Glenview Stud roster for the 2024 covering season.
The 13-year-old son of the outstanding Saint Des Saints (Cadoudal) had been responsible for a number of eye-catching bumper, novice hurdle and point-to-point winners in both Ireland and Britain in addition to plenty of blacktype performers in France.
His progeny began to make their mark in Ireland and Britain in the past year and a half, beginning with It’s For Me’s hugely impressive bumper debut for Willie Mullins.
Fifth in the Grade 1 Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, he beat Caldwell Potter on his only start to date over hurdles.
The master of Closutton then added a daughter of Jeu St Eloi to his string. Since then the French Grade 3 winner and listed-placed hurdler Kargese has won a Grade 1 at Leopardstown and run second in a pair of similar contests at Cheltenham (Triumph Hurdle) and Aintree.
Paul Nicholls is another trainer keen on Jeu St Eloi’s progeny, having paid €175,000 for Krocodile Rock at the 2023 Goffs Arkle Sale. Nicholls is responsible for Jeu St Eloi’s four-time winner Inthewaterside who was placed in a Grade 3 at Aintree, and the talented Grade 2-winning hurdler Blueking D’Oroux.
Blacktype performers are building up quickly for Jeu St Eloi and he is looks certain to be the name to watch in the years to come. His other blacktype winners are Hano De Loi (a listed hurdle and chase winner), Nara (won the Listed Prix Wild Monarch Hurdle at Auteuil and now with Henry de Bromhead), Hucello (won the Listed Prix Melanos Hurdle at Auteuil) and Idefixe Du Moulin, while multiple winner Jazzy Senam was second in the Grade 1 Prix Maurice Gillois Chase at Auteuil in November.
Standing 16.3 hands, the imposing Jeu St Eloi, who was placed on four of his six starts over jumps, is a half-brother to dual Grade 1 winning chaser Oculi (Denham Red), and to the dams of blacktype winers over jumps. They include Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 Prix La Haye Jousselin Chase third Argentique (Saint Des Saints).
From the immediate family of leading French sire Balko (Pistolet Bleu), sire of 150-plus rated runners Balko Des Flos, Vision Des Flos, Fago, Gitane Du Berlais and Le Patron, Jeu St Eloi offers breeders a fantastic outcross, as well as a chance to access the exceptional sire line of champion French sire Saint des Saints and the hugely influential Cadoudal (Green Dancer).
