DIVIDING his time between the new Starfield Stud in Ireland and his native Australia is Kuroshio, closely related to Epsom Derby hero Anthony Van Dyck and a double group winner over sprint distances.

He has already sired winners of 68 races and almost £1.5 million from his first few crops. These include Kurious who scored in the Group 3 Coral Charge Stakes and the Listed Scurry Stakes, both at Sandown Park, Dunkerron who was second in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood, and three others who were listed placed, as well as Hong Kong star Special Star.

By the leading sire Exceed And Excel out of the winning American mare Arctic Drift, who is dam of eight winners, Kuroshio is an own-brother to Believe’n’Succeed and they both won the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield in Australia. His sister has become a celebrated broodmare, as she is dam not only of Anthony Van Dyck, who scored in the Group 1 Epsom Derby in 2019 and was second in the Irish Derby, but also of Bounding, who was a champion sprinter in New Zealand, where her major success was in the Group 1 Railway Stakes.

The next dam November Snow won the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes and the Grade 1 Test Stakes, both at Saratoga, and is the grandam of Morning Line, successful in the Grade 1 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct.

Apart from the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude, Kuroshio also scored as a two-year-old in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington and he was second and third in listed races at Caulfield. At three years he added the Group 2 Ian McEwan Trophy Stakes over five furlongs at Moonee Valley and took third prize in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield.

The sire of Kuroshio is Danehill’s son Exceed And Excel who was a champion sprinter in Australia, with Group 1 victories in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington and the Dubai Racing Club Cup at Caulfield. He won seven of his 12 starts and he has already sired the remarkable total of 163 individual blacktype winners in Europe and Down Under, 17 of which have Group 1 victories to their credit, including Helmet (sire of the 2018 Group 1 Dubai World Cup winner Thunder Snow), Breeders’ Cup star Outstrip and champion miler Excelebration, as well as top sprinting filly Margot Did.
