THE first son of Showcasing to become a stallion, Cappella Sansevero, a two-year-old group winner at the Curragh, was extremely well supported by Irish breeders in his first season at Bridge House Stud in 2016, when he covered around 100 mares. His first foals fetched prices up to €24,000 in 2017 and his current yearlings include siblings to Group 1 stars Harry Angel and Jet Setting.
Cappella Sansevero himself made headline news as a 2twoyear-old in 2014, when he was sold for €1,560,000 at Goffs London Sale on the eve of Royal Ascot, where he was second on the following day in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes. He won four of his eight starts that season and was placed in three of the other four, all group events.
Cappella Sansevero scored first time out at Dundalk in April, then defeated Dick Whittington at Naas, before completing his hat trick in the Listed Marble Hill Stakes at the Curragh, which he won by over three lengths. After his sale he won the Group 3 Round Tower Stakes at the Curragh, was a close third to Dick Whittington and Kool Kompany in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh and then ended his racing career with a creditable fourth to Charming Thought, Ivawood and Muhaarar in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, with Kool Kompany behind him.
Cappella Sansevero is from the first crop sired by Showcasing, a son of Oasis Dream who scored in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York and was third in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes. Showcasing has been a definite success at stud, as he has already sired 19 blacktype winners in his first four crops, including Quiet Reflection who took the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup and the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup, Prize Exhibit with four graded wins in California and four other Group 2 winners. Altogether Showcasing has sired winners of some 290 races and over £5,000,000 in his first four seasons.
Madam President, Cappella Sansevero’s dam, was a winner and half-sister to four winners. His grandam is a winning half-sister to four blacktype winners including Short Skirt, who scored in the Group 3 Musidora Stakes and was third in the Oaks, and Whitewater Affair who won the Group 2 Prix de Pomone at Deauville and is the dam of Victoire Pisa, a dual champion in Japan and winner of the Group 1 Dubai World Cup.
