UNABLE to race again after his very successful two-year-old career because of an injury, Fast Company made an excellent start at stud and then moved to Kildangan Stud in 2017. His daughter Jet Setting won the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas, and she fetched the top price of £1,300,000 at Goffs London Sale.
Jet Setting was rated the second best three-year-old filly in Europe on 120 in the World rankings for 2016. Other notable performers by Fast Company include Devonshire, winner of the Group 2 Ridgewood Pearl Stakes at the Curragh and third in the Irish 1000 Guineas, and speedy juvenile Baitha Alga, who scored in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Shuttling to Chile, Fast Company sired Robert Bruce, a champion there at two and three years with four Group 1 successes, who was then sent to the USA and added the Grade 1 Arlington Million and the Grade 3 Fort Marcy Stakes, besides running second in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic.
Officially the second best juvenile of 2007, Fast Company was never out of the first two. He made a winning debut in a maiden race at Salisbury in July, going clear to score by three lengths. A month later, he was sent to York for the Group 3 Acomb Stakes, again over seven furlongs, and he won by three and a half lengths from triple Group 1 star Campanologist.
Fast Company’s final race was in the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes over seven furlongs at Newmarket. He made up four lengths in a furlong and, after a tremendous battle, it was only by half a length that he was held off by the subsequent Epsom Derby star New Approach. It was two and a half lengths back to Raven’s Pass in third place, with Dark Angel unplaced.
In Timeform’s Racehorses of 2007 Fast Company was the second highest rated two-year-old in Europe on 126, just 1lb below New Approach, with Raven’s Pass on 125 and Myboycharlie, Henrythenavigator and Dark Angel lower down the list. The world rankings also assessed New Approach and Fast Company as that year’s top juveniles on 126 and 125 respectively.
Fast Company is one of the best sons of champion sire Danehill Dancer, sire of five classic winners in Europe and of 172 stakes winners worldwide. Sheezalady, the dam of Fast Company, is a half-sister by Zafonic to champion filly Hawajiss, whose wins included the Group 2 Nassau Stakes, Group 3 May Hill Stakes and Group 3 Musidora Stakes, besides running second in the Irish Oaks and third in the Epsom Oaks.
