CLOSELY related to champion sprinter Battaash, Tasleet is one of the fastest sons of Showcasing and he was a group winner at three and four, after winning a listed event as a two-year-old, and he was also placed three times in Group 1 sprints.
Tasleet retired to stand under the Shadwell banner at Nunnery Stud in 2019, and his first foals at the sales in 2020 made a good impression on buyers. At the December Sales his son out of Great Hope sold for 60,000gns, while the colt out of Gone Sailing fetched 58,000gns, both well over 10 times his stud fee.
Trained by William Haggas, Tasleet scored three times at two, including the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury and the valuable DBS Premier Yearling Stakes at York.
He was placed in his other three starts that season, including a second to champion Shalaa in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood and another second in the Group 3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes at Newmarket.
Tasleet started the 2016 season with victory in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes over seven furlongs, but then an injury prevented him from running in the classics. He was back in winning form the next year when he landed the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes over six furlongs at York, coming home two and a half lengths clear of Magical Memory.
At Royal Ascot he was beaten only a neck by The Tin Man in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes, with Limato third in a field of 19, and then in the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup he was second to Harry Angel, with The Tin Man third and Blue Point fourth.
Tasleet ended that season with another second, to Librisa Breeze in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot, ahead of Caravaggio, Harry Angel and The Tin Man.
Undoubtedly one of the best sprinters of recent years, Tasleet amassed earnings of £650,154.
Showcasing, the sire of Tasleet, is one of the best sons of champion sprinter Oasis Dream. He won the Gimcrack Stakes and has sired over 50 blacktype winners, among them champion miler Mohaather and Group 1 sprinters Advertise and Quiet Reflection.
Tasleet’s dam Bird Key is a daughter of another sprint champion, Cadeaux Genereux, and her other winners include Tasleet’s listed-placed own-sister Lady Light. Bird Key is a half-sister to nine winners, including the Group 2 Champagne Stakes hero Etlaala, the dam of triple champion sprinter Battaash, twice winner of the Nunthorpe Stakes at York, as well as winning the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp.
