Mares cycle explained

The estrous cycle, also known as “season” or “heat” of a mare occurs roughly every 19–22 days from early spring into autumn. As the days shorten, most mares enter an anestrus period during the winter and thus do not cycle in this period. Estrous then lasts for 4-8 days.

Ovulation occurs 3-6 of estrous (1-2 days before estrous ends): This is the ideal time to send your mare to the breeding shed.

Gestation period This can vary between mares but the average 340 days.
