EQUI-Ed was founded in 2019 with the aim of delivering bespoke equine courses in massage therapy, first aid, nutrition and welfare education to Ireland. Equi-Ed is in partnership with the internationally recognised training school Equine Massage Academy (EMA), based in England. Equi-Ed has produced a range of innovative and flexible equine massage study programmes underpinned by science and experience of working with a wide range of horses of all disciplines on a local, national and international platform.

Equine nutrition

This unique level 5 training programme produces equine nutrition advisors and provides an in-depth specialist understanding of the well-being of the horse through study of the principles underpinning equine health and nutritional management. There will be a specific unit dedicated to racehorse nutrition for those who wish to focus on the racing industry. There is valuable laboratory practical experience available.

A fully flexible training course combining attended learning and distance learning with the completion of assignments. For those who wish to progress to level 6 status and become an equine nutritionist, there is the opportunity to do so through additional completion of nutrition case studies on horses.

Integrative support therapies

Equi-Ed provide two integrative support therapy courses for sport horses and thoroughbreds.

The training principles to become an equine massage therapist are based on objective, evidence based research and a thorough understanding of the horse. This approach takes into account the horses behaviour and psychology and its physical structure including anatomy and physiology. A number of relevant supplementary subjects are covered providing an ‘all encompassing’ programme of study, including rider and horse anatomical relationship, the importance of tack and equipment in therapy.

The racehorse specific course offers a unique and specialist course for the horse racing industry designed to produce industry specific therapists thus creating a pool of excellence within horse racing therapy and welfare. On completion, therapists will be able to perform a comprehensive range of massage therapy and rehabilitation on horses internationally.

Student learn a host of practical massage techniques such as sports massage, deep tissue muscle release, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilisation full passive stretch routines and more. A combination of all of these techniques produces an equine massage therapist (EMT) with the skills and ability to help racehorses improve performance and recovery, enhancing their health and wellbeing.
