The four-year BSc degree in Equine Science at the University of Limerick is perfect for students looking to pursue a career in the equine industry. There is also a two-year Certificate in Equine Science with the flexibility to progress to the Diploma in Equine Science and subsequently to the final year of the degree.
Students take core science, business, and equitation modules in first year, alongside specialist applied equine science modules. There is an increased focus on equine learning in second year with further specialisation in the third year, with the option to select business management or equitation modules.
Students doing the equine business management option take modules on Enterprise Formation, Management and Growth, Strategic Management, and Business Consulting. Students completing the equitation option are offered modules in Young Horse, Equestrian Facilities, Performance Rider Development and Training and Managing the Performance Horse.
Students also undertake an eight-month work placement and worldwide opportunities are available.
All degree students complete independent equine research during their final year. UL Equine Science undergraduate research has consistently been selected to the final at the British Equestrian Trade Association ‘Thesis of the Year Competition’, winning in 2022.’ The careers prospects from the course are endless with students tailoring their learning to their own interests.
