THE Irish National Stud is renowned for providing world-class training for young people interested in a career in the equine industry. Since its introduction in 1971, the Irish National Stud Thoroughbred Breeding Course has become the best-known equine training programme in the world.
The six-month residential programme, which is accredited by the South East Technological University, is designed to provide students with a practical approach to every aspect of thoroughbred breeding and provides them with the opportunity to interact with the best tutors and leaders in the equine industry.
Highly sought after
The unique aspect of the programme is the hands-on training that students receive as they rotate around the various divisions of the stud farm, this is complemented by a series of lectures, which include Equine Anatomy and Physiology, Equine Breeding, Horse Care & Management, Equine Business, Pedigree Analysis and Equine Welfare. Industry visits are organised throughout the programme, which give the students an insight into the operations of other equine organisations.
Irish National Stud graduates are highly sought after worldwide, with many playing prominent roles in stud farms, racehorse training, bloodstock sales, and media. Some of the most prestigious stud farms worldwide are owned or managed by INS alumni, who continue to champion INS education to future generations of learners.
