JULIA Molony, wife of Martin and mother of Rathmore Stud owner Peter, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 26th. Her funeral mass will take place today, Saturday, in St Michael’s Church, Manister, Croom, Co Limerick at 12 noon, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. The family has requested no flowers, but donations if desired may be made to the Irish Injured Jockey’s Fund.
A noted horsewoman in her own right, she was the daughter of one of the outstanding huntsmen of his time, Major Chetwode ‘Chatty’ Hilton-Green, and Lady Helena ‘Boodley’ Daresbury. Her father was Master of The Cottesmore pack from 1931-46 and he took a huge interest in hound breeding. Her mother was also a noted horsewoman but sadly died following an accident while hunting with the Limericks in 1962.
Born Julia Mary Hamilton Hilton-Green on September 22nd, 1938, she married the six-time Irish champion National Hunt jockey in 1960 and together they ran Rathmore Stud which is now owned by the fourth generation of the Molony family. Predeceased by her daughter Mary, she is survived by her husband Martin, children Jan, Suesanna and Peter, grandchildren, extended family and friends. Rest in peace.
