PADDY Kelly of Ballybin Stud in Ashbourne, Co Meath, was a hugely popular winner of the Small Bredeer Award.

The highly respected veterinary surgeon has bred plenty of winners from no more than five mares. Most recently he produced Group 3 Weld Park Stakes winner New York Girl and USA Eclipse Award-winning hurdler Winston C.

However, not everyone would be aware of the role Paddy plays in many other success stories through consigning and advising, not forgetting his veterinary work.

Paddy’s son Peter spoke very highly of his father’s achievements and video tributes were paid by Kirsten Rausing of Lanwades Stud and bloodstock agent Peter Doyle. Ms Rausing described Paddy as “a pragmatic character who is incredibly patient with his horses and clients.”
