JURY DUTY will attempt to do a ‘Tiger Roll’ and win the American Grand National for the second time next Saturday.
Gordon Elliott’s chaser won the New Jersey race last year under Robbie Power and the leading jockey confirmed yesterday he has been booked for the ride again at Far Hills next weekend.
“It looks like being a hotter race this year but it’s a Grade 1 with level weights, so he won’t have extra to carry for his previous success. The obstacles are like baby fences and last year the ground was on the slow side, which suited our horse. Jury Duty handles travelling well, so we will be hopeful of a good run.”
Elliott could send as many as five horses to the meeting, and his entries for the two-mile, five-furlong feature race include The Storyteller, who finished last of eight in the Grade 2 chase at Gowran Park last Saturday. Zanjabeel, formerly trained by Elliott, is now one of the leading home-based contenders.
The Emmet Mullins-trained Tornado Watch finished second in the American Grand National last year and this year his trainer has engaged Rocket Lad, winner of a maiden hurdle at Gowran Park last Saturday.
Willie Mullins has indicated that the veteran Wicklow Brave could run next weekend and he has also entered Pravalaguna, now owned by the same American interests who recently purchased likely runner Rashaan from Colin Kidd.
The enigmatic Brain Power will represent Nicky Henderson in a race which Ruby Walsh won in 2016 aboard Irish export Rawnaq.
