REPORTS that racing from Tramore on New Year’s Day will not be shown live on Racing TV are incorrect, according to a spokesperson for the new channel.
January 1st will mark the launch of Racing TV which has secured the rights to show Irish racing ‘direct to home’ for the next five years. Currently known as Racing UK, the rebranded channel will attempt to show racing from both Fairyhouse and Tramore on New Year’s Day, alongside the action from Cheltenham, Exeter, Musselburgh and Catterick.
DAYLIGHT HOURS
With daylight in short supply, and all races being run over extended distances, race clashes are inevitable on January 1st, but Tramore will be given equal opportunity if not more, according to Racing TV management.
“We plan to send two presenters to Tramore and their first race [at noon] will be the first race on the channel, so it will be a landmark moment,” the spokesperson said.
“Tramore stages the richest race of the day in Britain and Ireland on January 1st. We have reassured the Tramore team of our plans following an inaccurate media report this week.”
It’s expected that Racing TV will be free-to-view on January 1st and there may be a dedicated second channel devoted to Irish racing on that day.
Racing TV released details of its presenting team and future plans at Fairyhouse last Saturday.
Just four days later in London, Sky Sports Racing [currently At The Races] unveiled its presenters and planned schedule.
