Lot 11 (g) Beat Hollow – Fair Ina
Vendor: Redpender Stud
Purchaser: Peter & Ross Doyle/Tizzard
Price: €70,000
This gelding boasted one of the most notable pedigrees on offer through day one of the sale as he is a half-brother to the ill-fated Fayonagh whose brief but glittering career took in victories in the champion bumpers at Cheltenham and Punchestown.
For good measure, the dam, Fair Ina, is a winning half-sister to the brilliant Solerina, while Beat Hollow’s long standing prowess was amply advertised last season through the exploits of his Gold Cup-winning son Minella Indo. All of this makes this horse an interesting recruit for the Tizzard team.
Lot 147 (g) Vadamos – Our Girl Salley
Vendor: Glen Stables
Purchaser: Bobby O’Ryan
Price: €50,000
This gelding hails from the first crop of a sire whose presence in the National Hunt sphere should become an increasingly significant one in years to come and he looks a particularly interesting future representative for the Monsun horse as a half-brother to Black Tears.
A €36,000 purchase by Bobby O’Ryan in 2017, she ended a fine career in a blaze of glory at Cheltenham with a last-gasp triumph in the Grade 1 Mares’ Hurdle. Interestingly, this is the same family as the €230,000 Shantou gelding who topped this year’s sale.
Lot 182 (f) Presenting – Reine Angevine
Vendor: Walshtown Stables
Purchaser: Highflyer Bloodstock
Price: €60,000
Opportunities to buy young stock by Presenting are fast running out and this year’s three-year-olds hail from the final crop of the great sire. There were only seven by the Mtoto horse catalogued this week and one of them was this appealing filly who is an own-sister to a winner and a placed bumper mare.
Furthermore, her dam was placed at Grade 1 level and is a half-sister to the dual Grade 1-winning chaser Le Bague Au Roi.
Lot 263 (g) Morandi – Top Crystal
Vendor: Liss House
Purchaser: Mags O’Toole
Price: €50,000
This gelding was among a number of purchases made by leading agent Mags O’Toole and he was of considerable interest on both sides of his family.
Firstly, he was the only horse on offer by the Group 1-winning juvenile and classic-placed Morandi. Furthermore, he hails from a classy and versatile family.
His half-brother, Three Rocks, won the Group 3 Minstrel Stakes for Jim Bolger, while he is out of a Sadler’s Wells mare whose siblings include the high-class two-mile chaser Jack The Giant.
Lot 286 (g) Jeu St Eloi – Vared
Vendor: Clifton Farm
Purchaser: Tom Malone
Price: €90,000
This French-bred gelding was one of the most impressive individuals on offer which was reflected in his price. He is from the second crop of a son of Saint Des Saints who was placed several times over jumps and whose initial results on the track in France have been decidedly encouraging. This gelding was a particularly striking representative for the sire and his career will be worth following closely.
