ANOTHER event rider has died following a cross-country fall in America.

Philippa Humphreys, a British rider living in the United States, suffered fatal injuries following a rotational fall at a table fence on course at Jersey Fresh International.

Her death is the third such tragedy in as many months.

She and her horse Rich N Famous were competing in the CCI*** competition in New Jersey.

A statement issued by the event organisers in the past hour read: “It is with deep regret that we announce that rider #52, Philippa Humphreys, 33, suffered fatal injuries in a fall at fence 16, the table, on the cross country course of the CCI3* at the Jersey Fresh International Three-Day Event.

“Humphreys, a British citizen living in Rockford, Michigan, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in nearby Hamilton, NJ, where she was pronounced dead by the attending physician.”

"All of us connected with the Jersey Fresh International are deeply saddened by today's tragic news and we extend our condolences to Philippa's husband, Peter, and to her entire family," said Dan Wunderlich, chairman of the Jersey Fresh Three-Day Event.

Philippa, known as Philly, was originally from Chester in England and moved to the United States in 2005.

Philippa's horse, Rich N Famous, was uninjured. The 13-year-old coloured gelding is a Dutch warmblood/thoroughbred cross.

Philippa's passing follows the deaths of Australian teenagers Olivia Inglis in March and Caitlyn Fischer in April.
