RYAN Treacy, one of the rising stars of the weighroom, is facing up to four months on the sidelines as he recovers from broken bones he sustained in a fall during the Galway Plate.

Treacy underwent two operations in Tallaght Hospital this week – one on his fractured pelvis and another on his badly dislocated collarbone. Turf Club medical officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick described the rider’s injuries as “very nasty”. The Galway incident claimed the life of Treacy’s mount Foildubh.

There was better news of flat jockey Niall McCullagh who has been allowed home from Blanchardstown Hospital as he continues his recovery from serious injuries he received in a gallops fall two weeks ago.

McCullagh broke multiple ribs and punctured a lung in the incident. Dr McGoldrick said yesterday: “Niall is sore but otherwise in very good form. I’d say he will be out for six to eight weeks.”

Kevin Sexton was another Galway Plate casualty, his mount Make A Track losing his life and leaving the rider with a hand injury. Sexton is awaiting an MRI scan to determine the extent of his hand injury.

Danny Mullins was also in the wars at Galway but is expected to be passed fit to ride within a fortnight, while David Casey has passed the doctor following a fall on the last day of Galway which left him with a bruised kidney.
