TOM and Cathy Burns have sold their 170-acre Victor Stud in Golden, Co Tipperary to Godolphin Ireland.

Primarily a boarding facility, Victor Stud has produced plenty of winners and among the best horses bred by the Burns family are Majestic Missile, Monsieur Bond and Kinnaird, dam of Berkshire and grandam of Ivawood.

“In recent years Darley have been our biggest clients for boarding mares and we became great friends with them,” reported Tom Burns. “We’re delighted they have taken over the operation. It will be good for everyone and good for the area.”

SIX MARES

Tom and Cathy Burns will retain six mares of their own. “We are downsizing but will continue to breed horses. We have two daughters in Australia and want to spend more time with them also.”

It is believed that Godolphin Ireland will continue to use Victor Stud for boarding mares though the emphasis may switch to yearlings in the longer term. Sheikh Mohammed’s operation also owns Ballysheehan Stud in Cashel, less than 15 minutes from Victor Stud.
