SIZING John has joined Hurricane Fly, Faugheen and Beef Or Salmon in retirement at the Irish National Stud. Visitors to the stud are free to meet these ‘Living Legends’.

British-bred, but trained in Ireland, Sizing John had an illustrious career highlighted by a remarkable treble in 2017, winning the Gold Cup at Leopardstown, Cheltenham and Punchestown in the course of a few months for trainer Jessica Harrington.

His career spanned 21 races, with nine wins, including five Grade 1 victories.

Following his retirement from racing in September 2020, Sizing John embarked on a successful second career in the showing ring with Kate Harrington.

In 2023, he further cemented his legacy by claiming victory in the prestigious Racehorse to Riding Horse class at the RDS, triumphing over other racing greats, such as his old rival Douvan and Woodland Opera.

Known for his friendly nature and love of attention, Sizing John is already a favourite among the staff at the Irish National Stud.

In a fun revelation, it turns out that his favourite song is Katy Perry’s Roar – a fitting anthem for a champion, who roared to victory on the biggest stage.

Cathal Beale, CEO of the Irish National Stud and Gardens, said: “We were delighted to have Sizing John join us in the last few weeks. He’s a real character and such a gentle giant that we know he’ll be really popular with the public.”
