Describe the Cheltenham Festival in three words.

Exciting, competitive and depressing.

What’s your go-to celebration after a winner?

Most of the time I like to pretend that I’m pretty cool and I don’t do any celebration, but I get a bit carried away in Cheltenham and wave my stick to the crowd.

Are there any characters you’re looking forward to seeing at Cheltenham?

I love having a chat with Nico de Boinville, he’s a great fella. Charlie Deutsch as well, we have good banter in the weigh room for the week.

Who would you least like to be stuck next to on the plane over there?

Definitely Danny Mullins. He’d be jumping around and wouldn’t be able to sit still. Talking far too much and telling me about horses that he’s been giving better rides to than I have, so anyone bar Danny!

Is there a different atmosphere in the weigh room at Cheltenham, or do you try to keep it level?

Before the Supreme, the stewards and the starter come in and give a briefing, so once that’s done there’s silence with anticipation and a bit of nerves. It’s unique.
