COLIN Keane was in dominate form again at Leopardstown with a double, although the day’s feature race, the Group 3 Killavullan Stakes, went the way of Glounthaune who was making a quick return to the track having finished sixth in the Dewhurst Stakes.

Georgeville (108), ridden by Keane, clocked the fastest overall time of the day in winning the Listed Trigo Stakes by an impressive two and a half lengths.

Conversely the closing sectionals were the slowest on the card suggesting there was a slight pace collapse after a strong early gallop.

The son of Dawn Approach posted 38.74 for the concluding three furlongs as his winning run saw him pass all but three of his rivals.

Blanket finish

It paid to race close to the pace in the Killavullan Stakes, which was set by I Am Magic (101) (38.70) whose early position enabled him to cling on for third in a blanket finish.

Glounthane (104) stopped the clock at 38.22 for the final three furlongs after being momentarily outpaced breasting the rise on the home turn.

The eye-catcher was Boundless Ocean (100+), who took his chance after registering a fast time at the Curragh just two days previously.

Slowest to break

Jim Bolger’s colt was the slowest to break, presenting Luke McAteer with little alternative but to stay close to the rail, a route which eventually proved a barrier to victory.

There is little doubt they would have prevailed given a clear passage, a theory supported by the data as the son of Teofilo stopped the clock at 37.87 despite the luckless pilot having to stop riding at a crucial stage.

The fastest winning closing sectional was posted by Villanova Queen (84) in the opening maiden.

The Mastercraftsman filly covered the final three furlongs in 36.99 to prevail, although third placed Above The Curve (81+), on her debut, was faster covering the same ground in 36.50 seconds.
