Tell us about your favourite Cheltenham Festival experience and why it was so special.
I’ve only been to the Festival twice, once in 1997 and then again in 2017. The former will always be etched in my heart because my late dad, Joe, brought me when I was inbetween my Intermediate Certificate and Leaving Certificate in St. Michael’s College,
Listowel! It’s something I’ll always remember.
Where is the best place to watch the action?
I couldn’t tell you where the commentary box is at Cheltenham, so the club lawn in front of the Princess Royal Stand is where I watch the action unfold! It provides a great view of the action and the atmosphere on track is always special.
If you could own one horse running at this year’s Festival, who would it be and why?
If I could own one runner this year, it would be Al Boum Photo. He has been lightly campaigned with only one race in mind. He was very professional at Tramore on New Year’s Day and looked an absolute picture. He’s last year’s [Gold Cup] winner and he may well do it again.
If you could make one change to the meeting what would it be?
This tricolour-waving lark smacks of Paddywhackery! Leave the flags at home unless it’s St Patrick’s Day.
Which of the four days of the Festival is your favourite and why?
Oh, the first day by a furlong! It’s a fantastic day’s racing with the Supreme, the Arkle, the Champion Hurdle & Mares Hurdle! The remaining three days have very much been diluted since the fourth day was added.
